Intermediate Vision Statement

The Suicide Prevention Consortium of Kentucky will be Kentucky’s Suicide Prevention Resource Center.

Why Suicide Prevention Consortium Kentucky?

In 1999, then-Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher presented the “Call to Action to Prevent Suicide.” This proclamation provides a blueprint for each state to develop a state plan to help protect citizens from this health problem.

2002, the Division of Mental Health invited various community leaders to establish the Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group (KSPG). The Cabinet for Health Services accepted sponsorship of this group and has dedicated staff from both the Department for Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services and the Department for Public Health to facilitate this group.

2009, KSPG membership voted to incorporate as a 501C3. More information about the Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group.

2013, the State Suicide Prevention staff for the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities established the Suicide Prevention Consortium Kentucky to bring together community leaders, health professionals, survivors and all who are working to stop suicide deaths in Kentucky.
